Title: Caged
Date: Appeared on MTV on Monday nights from January 16, 2012 and the season finale appeared on March 13, 2012.
Time: 10pm
Genre: Sitcom/Drama-
This was a reality television show on MTV, which followed a few guys whose life goals are to be professional mixed martial arts fighters. I feel that the audience’s expectation of this genre is to inform on the practice of the professional fighters and the lifestyles they have to endure in order to reach their goal.
Audience: The target audience of this show is young adults interested in reality television. This program relates to that specific audience by showing them the lifestyles of the people the program is following and going behind the scenes of the daily lives of the training fighters.
Episode Synopsis:
In Episode 1, Red and Wes are the couple that introduces the show. Red is Wes’ on again off again girlfriend and the mother of their son. Wes, Daniel and Danger are high school graduates and training mixed martial arts fighters. Their “escape from reality” is getting in the cage and fighting.
Then Daniel is introduced. He is introduced by showing a party happening in his garage and when his nametag is popped up on the screen it says that he is also known as Golden Boy because he has never been knocked out in a fight. At this party Daniel’s background is brought up a little bit and his on again off again girlfriend Brittni is introduced. The next day Daniel tells a little more about himself, his personality, who he is and why he is the way that he is.
The scene then transitions from showing Daniel training to showing Danger training. His real name is Matt and he is nicknamed Danger because he is a rising star in the local fight scene. His coach believes that he has the most potential out of the other trainers at the gym.
In the middle of the episode sentimental sides of each fighter are shown then the show transitions to them preparing and weighing in for their fights.
Wes and Danger both win their fights. Unfortunately for Daniel he gets knocked out which ultimately means he loses his fight.

This program is not necessarily a written show. Because it is a reality show it sort of just goes with the flow of the lives of the fighters. College aged students could relate to this show because they do talk about how they wish they did schooling. Personally I know of a guy that does go to Rider and is a mixed martial arts fighter. This show does attempt to connect with personal and social ideals/values. The show is not just about fighting. It is about their own personal relationships and having a good time with their friends. When certain characters are introduced, it shows them partying. Also, they are turning to their friends a lot for advice or just simply to vent, which is extremely important to any human being, especially a college student. The twitter link that I posted under the enhanced content section allows viewers, who are mainly young adults/college students, to follow their favorite personalities in the show. In order to make this show better aimed towards college students, MTV should try to find students who are actually in college and trying to pursue a career in mixed martial arts/cage fighting.
